A scale of 1-10 is used to monitor the pressure. It is important to communicate with the therapist, so that the massage is within your comfort level. It is important to drink water for a few days after the massage to help rehydrate the body and reduce soreness.

What is a typical session like?

A typical therapy session is between 30 and 90 minutes. You will be required to fill a health history form (which can be downloaded and brought to the session). An interview will follow to discuss your symptoms medical history and lifestyle.

Assessment procedures may be necessary. This can involve active and passive range of motion, muscle length and strength tests. Special tests may also be involved. A postural assessment may be taken, it is advisable to wear a sports top and bike shorts/shorts if you are not comfortable in underwear. (nothing too bulky).

You will be asked to undress down to your underwear while the massage therapist is out of the room, and lie either face up or down under a sheet or towel on a padded massage table.

The therapist re-enters the room and will then adjust pillows and bolsters to ensure that you are comfortable and properly positioned. Tell the therapist if you are too warm or cold.

Depending on the type of massage required the therapist will use a combination of dry techniques followed by techniques that require oil or wax.

You are under the sheet at all times and only the part of the body being treated at any one time is uncovered.
