Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibers of the muscles, tendons and fascia. When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions ( bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendon, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions, (and scar tissue ) to relieve pain and restore normal movement.

There is usually some stiffness or pain after a deep tissue massage, but it should subside with a day or so. It is important to drink water after a deep tissue session to help eliminate toxins.
